Hiking

A total of 120 km of hiking trails are available around Hotel Villa Ludwig - fantastic views naturally included. Numerous lodges and alpine pastures along the way also invite you to enjoy a delightful stop. Recommended for easy and nature-rich hikes are, for example, the "Three Castles Path," the "Schwangau Loop Route," and the "Schwansee Loop with Alpenrosenweg." Due to the immediate proximity to Tyrol, you will also find more challenging mountain tours in the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. The Lechweg through the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park region is also a picturesque experience.

Our tip: The Allgäu-Tirol Hiking Card. The card is valid for 3, 5, 7, or 14 days and offers free rides on various railways as well as free entry to numerous baths.

Tennis fun on clay - just 500 metres from the hotel

Tennis

Five clay courts are located just 500 m from the hotel. Our guests play for free. We are happy to reserve a court for you on the idyllic grounds.

Nordic walking

Nordic walking is one of the healthiest sports and knows no age limit. It is a full-body workout that trains endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination. Especially in the Alpine and pre-Alpine regions, there are numerous Nordic walking arenas amidst the most beautiful nature. Around Hohenschwangau, the trails of Kurparkrunde with 3.5 km or the large Alpseerunde with 12 km invite you to enjoy walking in nature.

Golf

For all golf enthusiasts, the Alpine foothills with their numerous unspoiled lakes and forests are a paradise. The selection of options is large, from challenging 18-hole courses to smaller 9-hole courses with a fascinating natural backdrop. Just around the corner, about a 20-minute drive away, is the 18-hole golf course "Auf der Gsteig" in Lechbruck or the slightly smaller 9-hole course "Stenz" in Bernbeuren (about a 30-minute drive).

Cycling

In Schwangau and the surrounding area, leisure cyclists and mountain bikers alike will get their money's worth. More than 65 loop routes can be found here in the Allgäu, all along countless sights. Inviting rest areas line the way, and charming refreshment stops can be found around every corner. Particularly appealing are the long-distance cycling routes along the "Romantic Road," the Via Claudia Augusta, and the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path. But also around Hohenschwangau, there are countless cosy and romantic short routes along the waterfront promenades for the whole family.

Lakes

A multitude of small and large lakes have shaped the name "Ostallgäu Lake District." Two nature reserves crown the landscape: Bavaria's largest alpine reserve "Ammergebirge," the former royal hunting ground of Ludwig II, and the nature park "Bannwaldsee" with rare plants, butterflies, and flowers. Lake Forggensee offers unlimited sporting pleasure for sailing and surfing enthusiasts. In the immediate vicinity are also Lake Alpsee, Lake Schwansee, and in neighbouring Tyrol, Lake Plansee.

Königliche Kristalltherme Schwangau (spa complex)

Königliche Kristalltherme Schwangau offers five themed saunas, two natron or brine pools with different salt concentrations, an outdoor pool prepared according to Hildegard von Bingen, and two steam baths. On 14,000 m2, there is also a lovingly designed spa park as well as restaurants, a café, and a pool bar. All rooms of the spa complex are, just like Neuschwanstein Castle, inspired by the Byzantine style as well as French and German legends.
